The Commercial Hotel (Walcha) was built in 1864 by Benjamin Hardaker. The hotel took a year to build as Walcha suffered heavy snow falls and prolonged wet periods before being officially opened on the 24th May 1865.
The location of the hotel was at the time outside of the village of Walcha, but it was chosen because of its elevation from the Apsley River in order to prevent the hotel being flooded. It was also Benjamin’s belief that Walcha was growing fast and would eventually expand beyond the hotels location.
In the year 2000 the then owners of the hotel undertook an extensive renovation providing extending the existing building to the north to accommodate the current kitchen and dining area. While the renovation was extensive the existing hotel remains as it was originally built.
Today the hotel is a popular destination for locals and tourist alike. Featuring some of the tastiest food found in a country hotel made with local produce, wide selection of beers on tap including a range of Coopers and quality comfortable accommodation.
